The Japan‐India YNU Symposium 2021 on
“Sustainable Transformation (SX)”
27 December, 2021 Held Online

There are many problems in the world that need to be solved
on a global scale. The impact of the new coronavirus in 2019 has dramatically changed our lifestyle. In addition, the world
faces global environmental issues such as decarbonization,
carbon neutrality, zero emissions and the circular economy.
In this major transformational period, the technologies based on science are rapidly expanding across the traditional boundaries of physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

With the increasing importance of Japan-India cooperation under these circumstances, a relay-type Japan-India
exchange symposium aimed at SX (Sustainability Transformation) was planned with the support of the Sakura Exchange Program. In this program, a new attempt was made to deepen exchanges between faculty members and students in each field in advance between 6 universities in 4 regions and fields using the relay method. To conclude this program, we will hold an online Japan-India YNU symposium on the final day of December 27.

At this symposium, we will set a time zone in which researchers and students from Japan and India can freely participate, and share the results of discussions in four small groups in advance. It is expected that a lot of information that cannot be grasped in real time can be obtained in a short period of time by summarizing each discussion at the symposium on the final day. In this way, we will explore the
ideal method of joint research and development by experts with diverse backgrounds in science and engineering research between Japan and India with YNU as a hub. And I hope that it will lead to the symposium by a hybrid of face-to-face and online from next year onwards. The organizers welcome participants who are interested in research in the inter-
disciplinary area and expect exciting and fruitful discussions.
